For those of you who cannot make it have no fear I will post pictures from the opening so it will feel like you were there too. I spent today adjusting the lights and for fun this afternoon I printed some posters. remember to click the images to see them full screen.

day 32

well the exhibition is complete except for some minor tweeking of the lighting and some preperations for the opening. With luck I may get to take a day off this week. I hope to see everyone at the opening this thursday july 13th at 6pm.

Sunday, July 09, 2006

day 30

"The completed circles are beautiful."
-DKA www.dka9.com-

I am very tired but now the two circles are complete. 1000 black and 1000 white lids arranged in two ten foot diameter circles. After a good nights rest I will resume working. I am thinking about what this space will feel like with people in it. I spend so much time working on what is a solitary art that I forget I will be sharing it with other people next week. with 5 days left I am feeling a little pressure, and a little bit ready to go back to california.

Friday, July 07, 2006

day 29

I managed to get the white lids finished now to finish the black lids. I hope to make some more progress later. I am off to the invasion fundraiser for redux . With only six more days until the opening I can finally see an end to this. The most difficult part is that I can't speed up this work it takes the time that it takes and I just have to stick with it. just a reminder you can click any of the pictures to see them full size.

Thursday, July 06, 2006

day 28

I began to define the lid circle today, now it is just a matter of time. The room is really starting to shape up and I am feeling pretty good about this show, looking forward to the opening. 7 more days to go.

Wednesday, July 05, 2006

day 27

slow and steady wins the race. I keep telling myself I will finish, I am headed back in for an evening session tonight and hope to make some major progress.

Tuesday, July 04, 2006

day 26

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY.
I went in for a couple of hours today and now I am going to watch fireworks and get a good nights rest before I start back tommorow. I made some more headway on the lids and grew the stir stick wall I am begining to lose track of the progress I am making but I will forge ahead only 9 days left until the opening

Monday, July 03, 2006

day 25

I did not leave until 1am last night and came back first thing this morning but things are finally starting to come together. I managed to rebuild the lost section of the stir sticks and made progress on the lids and began the straws. Time takes time, and it wont be too many more days before I can begin the sugar packet color wheel.

Sunday, July 02, 2006

day 24

I began working in the gallery today with only 11 days to go I have to stay focused. I experienced a minor setback today when the stir stick wall began to collapse, but seth managed to grab the camera and document the collapse. after a slow day of working I have regained some of the size I plan to go back this evening and continue with the construction

Saturday, July 01, 2006

day 23

here is the empty gallery space ready for installation, which will begin tommorow.

Wednesday, June 28, 2006

day 20

"Everything Jonathan Brilliant makes reminds me of hash browns."
-Shannon Wright,www.shannonwright.org

I realized it has been a few days since the last update. This sunday I will begin installing in the gallery and then I will resume daily updates as I count down to the opening on july 13th at 6pm.

Thursday, June 22, 2006

day 14

I can really hear this stick piece everytime I move it around. I am getting closer to the day I install the show in the gallery, I hope to do a few more pieces outdoors, it always feels so sterile when I spend too much time in the studio and not enough in my natural environment.

Tuesday, June 20, 2006

day 12

I managed to edition the print, thank you to seth curcio.

and a few more images from my day

Monday, June 19, 2006

day 11

these are several stills from a coffee toss. it is always great to return coffee back to it's natural environment.

Sunday, June 18, 2006

day 10

looking forward to getting out to the coffee shops and doing some work now that this print is almost resolved

Saturday, June 17, 2006

day 9

here's a good newspaper proof of the currently unrealized print
9x10 feet and growing

here is a proof of the print for the july 7th fundraiser. I spent today printing and problem solving this print. tonight I will return to build on the stir stick wall. sometimes I get so lost in the process that I lose track of any progress I am making.

Friday, June 16, 2006

day 8

I am getting very tired. Tonight I hope to edition my print for the redux fundraiser at Mary Martin Fine art 39 broad street The event isn't until july 7th but I would like to finish the print in order to move on to more building.

Thursday, June 15, 2006

day 7

this image as well as the other one with me in it are courtesy of seth curcio the director of redux contemporary art center

It is hard to believe only a week has passed. When I am working with in this way time really slows down, I feel more in touch with what really motivates me.

Wednesday, June 14, 2006

day 6.5

I have the transparencies ready for the poster hope to be printing that soon

day 6

I finally pulled a newsprint proof of the print I am making for the redux fundraiser on july 7th. also the stick wall continues to take on a new direction. Of all the stir stick walls I have built this one has a very spongy feeling

Tuesday, June 13, 2006

day 5

heard lots of creaking from the stir stick wall today. I have had to place two tables under each end. I am working very cautiously to avoid a total stability loss. I am thinking alot about what it means to be a british wannabe and a southern has-been.

Monday, June 12, 2006

day 4

I saw some lovely summer color this morning and just had to use it in my work.

Sunday, June 11, 2006

day 3.5

here are the working drawings of my vision of the exhibition poster. If you can't tell the text says "Jonathan David Brilliant as the Goldsworthy of the Coffee shop".
It feels really good to be working in Charleston again. For me there is something very poetic about leaving Charleston, and the studio at redux in particular, to study art for two years and then return as a guest to the studio next door to my old studio. It is a long way to go to just move next door.

day 3

I have been taking a picture of my progress every day but this blog begins with day 3. the black and white image is the transparency for the currently unrealized print but I hope to complete that soon. everything else is in progress. I hope to post at least a few photos each day as the project moves along.
